WORK AND WITNESS PARTNERSHIP WITH THE

DISTRICT OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Recently (August 20-28, 2010), through a special partnership arrangement with the USA/Canada Regional Office, our district hosted our very first "foreign nationals" work and witness team.

The Logan Church graciously hosted the team by providing lodging and several meals along with some travel assistance.  The twelve DR team members served our Central Ohio Nazarene family by assisting with a variety of projects at our Logan Conference Center RV Park

Shower House construction project.

Josh Manson served as site coordinator and along with George Sisler provided excellent leadership for this first-time experience.  Following three hard days at the RV Park, the team joined up with Rev. Mike Durst, our District Latino Ministry Coordinator, and conducted

personal evangelism outreach in the Columbus area near

Cleveland Avenue and State Route 161.

OUTREACH EVENT AT PORTSMOUTH FIRST

Pastor Rodney Kincaid reports on a tremendous outreach event for the local church.  Over 200 book bags filled with back-to-school supplies were given away and over 400 hot dogs were served to the community.  This annual event reveals the compassionate heart of Portsmouth Nazarenes.

ONE HEART MANY HANDS MINISTRY COMES TO FRANKLINTON NEIGHBORHOOD IN COLUMBUS

Justin Neufeld helps load a truck with lumber from a decrepit garage that volunteers tore down at a Franklinton home. More than 200 volunteers showed up for this service project.

Homeowner Pat Marvin, 62, left, calls volunteers Marina Followell and Bill Hancock of the Lower Lights Community Church of the Nazarene a "godsend" for working on her home.

On Sunday, July 25, 2010 over twenty volunteer teams arrived in Columbus with their hearts and minds focused on the near-west side neighborhood of Franklinton. The two-hundred plus One Heart – Many Hands volunteers traveled from as far away as Orlando, FL and New Paltz, NY and as nearby as Reynoldsburg, OH to spend this week repairing homes of low-income, single-parent, handicapped and elderly families. There is no cost to the recipients of these services.   Thirty-five critical-need projects in Franklinton owner-occupied homes will be completed this week, including: making bathrooms and kitchens handicapped accessible, repairing roofs, installing gutters, and repairing wheelchair ramps.  Since 1993, more than 10,000 OHMH volunteers have completed more than 500 home-based projects in Orlando, Indianapolis, San Antonio, Chiapas (Mexico), and other large urban areas like Columbus.

This vital ministry is operated under the excellent leadership of George Sisler and Josh Manson who also serve as Work and Witness mission directors for the USA/CANADA world region of the Church of the Nazarene.  Both of these servant leaders make their home right here near Columbus and have deep roots

to Central Ohio.

WESTERVILLE CHURCH CELEBRATES

OHIO NATIONAL GUARD HOMECOMING

They’re called the "Mighty 204" and they are home safe and sound with their families.  This story was carried on the local Fox station as a feature during it's 11pm newscast.

On Monday, May 10, the Ohio National Guard honored a small group returning home from Afghanistan in a ceremony held at the Westerville Church of the Nazarene. Dale Carter, member of this church helped organize this "mission" which included the soldier’s arrival, escorted by a Fire truck, Patriot Guard on motorcycles, and many well wishers that included family and friends.

Signs, banners, flags and patriotic outfits decorated our parking lot to welcome the soldiers. "All R Friends" decorated cupcakes and wrote personal letters of appreciation and hand delivered them as they greeted the troops.

The 204th Engineer Detachment is home after supporting a year long mission in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The nine-member construction team oversaw $48 million in construction projects and assistance ventures.

EXCITING DEVELOPMENTS IN

MULTICULTURAL MINISTRY

Within the Interstate 270 loop around the city of Columbus, an exciting new multicultural ministry effort has been launched to help us reach the demanding needs of diversity around our metropolitan area.

This ministry is known as Nu Nazion (pronounced new nation) and it is being spearheaded by Butler B'ynote'.  Currently, we are gathering for worship on the fourth Sunday of each month.

Thanks to a generous partnership with Columbus First Church, these worship services are being held in the church sanctuary at 4:00 PM.  The plans are to increase these Sunday worship gatherings to twice each month beginning real soon.

Please take a prayerful look at the our vision plan at this link:

MISSION OF SIGHT DREAM CENTER IN JAMAICA

When you just think about the Work & Witness ministry efforts across our great denominational family, the name Paul Gamertsfelder comes to mind.   This true servant was recently a team member on a special mission trip where the Mission of Sight Dream Center was dedicated in his honor.  Our District Superintendent, Pastor Trevor Johnston, made a surprise weekend visit to Jamaica to participate in the dedication services and brought back these photos.

The construction photos are posted below to show the progress that is being made at the Gamertsfelder Medical Center.
