Massey, II FAYETTEVILLE U.S. Army Ret SGM Arthur Edward Massey II, of Fayetteville died on Tuesday January 30, 2007 in the North Carolina State Veterans Nursing Home. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Lois Langley Massey of Fayetteville. Also surviving him are: his children, Arthur Edward Massey III of Texas, Lorna Massey Nelson and her husband, Bruce of Youngsville, Cara June Massey of New Bern, James Douglas Massey of Asheville, Kathleen Massey Marks and her husband, Elliott of Mebane as well as his grandchildren, Kelly, Paul, Leah, and Ian.
He was predeceased by his only sibling, Gertrude Emmons of Maryland. He: is also survived by extended family, Pat, Gail, Richard, Marlene, David, Carolyn and Nancy. Art was born on February 25, 1927, in Alexandria, VA of the greatest generation. He served in WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Earning two purple hearts, he also earned four meritorious medals, the United Nations Service medal, the Korean Service medal, the Vietnam Service medal, the Combat Medical Badge, the National Defense Service medal, the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and two bronze Stars.
After retiring, he earned a degree in horticulture and worked at Womack Army Hospital. In his later years, he most enjoyed working in his garden and producing astounding garden vegetables. His family celebrates his life at a visitation at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on the morning of Saturday February 3, 2007.
Interment with the rendering of full military honors will be at a later date in Arlington National Ceme-. tery in Arlington Virginia. Services entrusted to Rogers and Breece Funeral Home of Fayetteville. Johnny Royce Morgan BENSON Mr. Johnny Royce Morgan, 52, died Thursday at Britthaven in Dunn.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Unity Advent Christian Church. Officiating will be Revs. Billy Keene and Hubert Morgan. Burial will follow in Morgan-Wood family cemetery.
Mr. Morgan was born October 22, 1954 to the late James Willard and Christine Adams Morgan. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Morgan. Mr. Morgan was a former NC Highway Patrolman, former police officer, and was an attorney.
Survivors include: sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Tony Young of Dunn, Linda and Randy Allen of Four Oaks; special aunt, Mildred Adams of Benson; several nieces and nephews. Gardiner Booth Parker RALEIGH Gardiner Booth Parker of 2505 Wake Drive died Wednesday, January 31, 2007.
He was born November 23, 1923 in Montgomery, AL, the son of William Leman and Nell Booth Parker. He was a graduate of the Hill School, Pottstown, PA and of Princeton University. He also studied at the University of Alabama. He served in the US Army during World War II, including duty in France, Germany and the Philippines. After employment with the states of Alabama and Florida, he came to Raleigh in 1958 as Director of Classification and Pay for the NC Office of State Personnel.
He served later as Director of Management Development and Training. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh where he served as elder, deacon and teacher. He was a member of the Vanguard Bible class and regularly attended the Early Birds breakfasts. He was also a longtime member of the Raleigh Kiwanis Club. Surviving are: his wife, Barbara Thompson Parker; three stepdaughters, Barbara Church McIver of Raleigh, Diana Smith Church of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Elizabeth Carroll Church of New York; two step-grandsons, Brett Corter and William Corter.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends in the Baucom Parlor immediately following the service.
